11/7/2005 Time fliesTime flies by, it's gone or lost
Someone moved, was it a ghost?
The city's lit up by the moon
You wonder why, you're so alone
Yeah, well, the promise about blogging more often kind of failed miserably and I don't even have anything to blame it on. Yikes!
So, first a quite recap of the last few months. My sound card is in Cambridge, MS, USA, and I'm not waiting for a new one to drop down my mailbox. Motu finally agreed to exchange it (for $80 thought, but still) and I hope to be back on track before christmas. It feels that I'm sooo behind in the music creation - almost lost a year even though I've been working with Joachim in his studio the whole summer and Patrik in his studio this fall.
Joachim's album "Med Mig i Det Gränslösa" (in English; "With Me Into the Unbound" more or less, sort of) has been released and there are a couple of gigs coming up. I'll attend as sound technician and it will be fun to be a part of a show even though I'm not on stage.
Patrik and I did a remix of the Jeremiha song "Love Anthem" which will be released on vinyl in Australia. That will actually be my second official release of a remix. The first one was my "Massive Treatment" version of the Halovox song "Silent Whispers" released on Halovox debut CD carrying the same name, Halovox.
What’s happening now? Tonight I'll see Coldplay live in the Globe Arena. It will be a great show, I hope, and I'm now in the middle of listening through the Coldplay CDs I got. I haven't seen them live before and I have to thank Jennie for playing the "Parachutes" CD over and over again every time I visited. Tonight we'll hopefully enjoy a couple of Parachutes tracks live =)
Last Saturday I met three Pet Shop Boys fans and we hooked up for the night listening to music, eating, chatting, watching video clips and playing our favourite songs. It was fun and we really had a great time.
Other than that, I've been to Lund partying with a couple of friends, I've been eating tapas at a really nice restaurant in Gamla Stan, bought a new winter coat, new gloves, a new shirt and cardigan. I'm trying to remember if I've bought some new CD's since last time (which I probably have). I picked up the Robbie Williams album "I've Been Expecting You" for $8 at a gas station on the way home from Lund. Yesterday I picked up the movie Noel and it blew me away. I was really on the brink of bursting into tears, but something held them back. Anyway, great "feel good" movie, even though it's a bit predictable towards the end, with amazing performance by both Susan Sarandon, Robin Williams and Paul Walker. Penelope Cruz is always Penelope Cruz, neither good nor bad. Just Cruz.
I really don't like MSN. They've removed my font size I've been using for all the other post except for the last two. Sucks really. Well well .....
I'll write more later on, but you never know when - do you?
10/3/2005 A slow weekendSo, I haven't blogged for a while even though I've promised to write more ofter. Who can you blame? Well, blame me! =) Poker night last Friday here at the office. Fun as hell, even though I didn't win. Having a great time is what counts - right? Anyway, we ended up at a night club which wasn't too fun. Some dreadful eurovision music which sucked, and some 80's music (a whole lot better - yes) was played. We had a few drinks and I headed home around 2 with VNV Nation playing on my iPod. Finally, some good music for a change. I slept till 11.30 or something, took a shower, had some breakfast and ended up on the sofa in the living room. We watched 'Million Dollar Baby' (I've seen it before) and then some random TV-show. After that I recorded a Chris Rock show onto a DVD. We laughed our asses off while watching it. After that we watched 'Att Stjäla En Tjuv' which is a pretty wacky Swedish movie. The Saturday was kinda slow. Didn't do much at all. Went to bed around 11pm. Slept okay and woke up at 9.30 on the Sunday. I fetched my car at the office and drove back home and started to re-arrange things in my room. I think I got a little more space free now but I got a lot of cables to patch back in to the studio equipment. Someday, someday. My sound card isn't working properly .. still .. but I've given up on it. Before turning out the ligths last night, I watched 'Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children' and it was GREAT! Time to go down to the gym now. Been really tired the whole day, but I think some workout can get me hyped up =) Later! 8/13/2005 Art of musicWhen writing this it's 01.31 and Lollo and I got home from Batman Begins a while ago. Really good movie! If you're into fast action movies, see this one! Even though most of the action scenes were a bit shaky, moving camera and really fast cut (think of 15 Lasse Hallström angles cut together from up to one second long pieces - and there you go) and some incredible stunts like hanging in a rope from a fast moving train, the movie was good. Or more than good. It was great. It had a nice mystisism, hilarious one-liners and superb acting by both Morgan Freeman and, of course, Michael Caine.
Before the movie I grabbed a cup of coffee at Java Bean with U1 (Johan). We chat for, I think, three hours about everything from small and fast cars, cell phones and computer games to music (VNV Nation among others) and the military service.
My iPod is behaving a bit strange. It's randomly skipping songs when they're about to start and the album art isn't working. Perhaps I should delete everything and start over. I'm going to buy Anapod and Tag&Rename in the end of the month, when the pay check arrives. Anapod is for transferring songs to my iPod (and yes, I'm totally aware of iTunes, but I really dislike that program - and I got my reasons) and Tag&Rename is for keeping the mp3 files correctly tagged (with art and stuff). I've tried Ephpod but it screws up the iPodDB so that program has been thrown out - bye bye.
Tomorr, eh, today, Eva (my plastic sister) will be married. It will be really fun and I got both clothes and camera ready for action. Right now my life feels like 1/x, x being Four Weddings and a Funeral. Try Four Funerals and a Wedding instead. A dear friend from the past has passed away and even if I haven't seen for quite sometime, I remember all the moments when she's been so extremely friendly and kind - almost like an extra mother. My dad was more involved in an orthodox church before than now, and I met her in church and known her almost whole my life. So, on Monday it's time for the funeral. Another funeral. Again.
Anyhow, tomorrow, eh, today, will be a really fun day (today, eh, yesterday, wasn't that bad either) and I better try to get some sleep now.
Take care, who ever you are, how ever you are, where ever you are. 8/11/2005 A new alternativeSo, train ride again. Rushing through the country side, trees passing by, endless fields, mile after mile of telephone cables. Soon to be obsolete I guess. I left a fairly gray Stockholm and it was raining quite heavily through the night and during the day. Luckily it stopped for a while so I didn't have to use my umbrella when I left for the train station catching the train bound for Gothenburg.
I got home at about 2.50 tonight. Visited Jennifer last night with an old disk I didn't need (but her old Mac would desperately need one though) and to eat some 'kladdkaka'. We planned to see a movie as well, but ended up struggling with her computer and then she got tired so I tried the night busses for the first time in Stockholm. Took me 1:20 to get home.
Okay, bound for Gothenburg, I'll stay at Lollo's place crashing on her sofa. Haven't seen her for a while so it'll be fun! On Saturday I'll attend to a wedding, and on Monday I'll attend to a funeral. Life has its ups and downs, but they tend to come a little too close sometimes. Last week was spent in Patrik's summer cabin. We didn't do much, except for relaxing which we did a lot. I was great, really. His parents cooked food, coffee, cookies and so on. We played some badminton in the garden, watched a couple of movies, and composed some music. PF and Volantiz from 99musik.com dropped by on a barbeque party. They arrived at 18:30 or so and suddenly it was 2:20, and the chance of a good nights sleep was long gone.
Last Friday was a great day. Patrik, Michael, Leffe, PF and I gathered at T-Centralen to catch a tube to Skärholmen and then a bus to Heron City to watch The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. I thought it was a great movie. Want to see it again real soon, and hopefully they'll do four more movies, since there are four more books to cover. Sam Rockwell did good job as Zaphod Bebblebrox. Not sure if Jim Carrey had done it better actually. Martin Freeman was awesome as the dull, dry and semi-boring Arthur. After the movie we caught a bus back to Skärholmen, and then the tube to Slussen where I jumped off to take another one home.
We, Ypsilon 5, were booked for a gig last Saturday but it was cancelled due to bad weather. I looked at the thermometer the night before and it showed 13° so some parts of my (my fingers for example) are glad the gig didn't go through, even though I was extremely hyped up about it. Another gig coming up within three weeks. Let’s just hope it doesn't get cancelled.
For ten years ago Pet Shop Boys released their collection of b-sides, called Alternative, on a double CD and today I took out all my singles and maxis from that date until today to do my very own Alternative part 2. I've gathered 33 songs including both Miracles and Flamboyant (even though they're not back sides) on two proposed CD's with a total playing time of 2:14. I'm amazed at how good the b-sides actually are.
40 minutes left of the train ride. Time to close my eye-lids for a while I think. It takes strength to relax =)
Take care. Over and out. 7/29/2005 Fat CatWhen writing this, I'm only one hour away from my long awaited vacation. I'll be kicking back for three weeks mostly meeting friends, reading books, sleeping, composing some music, and perhaps tidy up the room a bit. I hope I can get out taking some pictures as well. Having done most of my duties today, I'm now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Tonight I'll go out with some friends from the office to thank a colleague for his work at our office this summer and the part time he's been doing since a year back or so. So, we'll head for La Habana to eat a nice dinner, since drinks and God knows what else.
This week seemed so long when I woke up Monday morning, but it actually passed pretty quick. I wrote a small program which compares to different sheets in an Excel workbook and then updates one of the sheets according to some specific details from a colleague. I wrote the program and it took nearly 6 hours to compare the rows in the sheets (a combination of 34 million comparations to be executed) but figured out a clever way to optimize the program a whole lot. I haven't been doing any serious programming for almost a year now so I amazed myself when I figured out some smart solutions. A shame I had to credit myself instead of someone else doing it - don't you think? ;-)
If Michael is the world's biggest impulse shopper, I'm a close second. Yesterday I placed my order for an iPod with colour screen and click wheel, 60GB of storage, a combined Firewire and USB dock and an Incase Folio to protect it when I'm on the tube or out running. I'm expecting it to drop by next week but you never know for sure.
While we're at ordering stuff, I placed an order for a Goldfrapp album missing in my CD collection, two Pet Shop Boys singles (London on CD and vinyl) and a Schiller album. I also ordered two copies of the new Röyksopp album, "The Understanding" for a friend and myself. And, yesterday I got a note from the post office (well, there are no Post Offices left in Sweden so my local "post office" is at my local store where I shop for food) from "Fat Cat". No clues what so ever. Just a note that I got a package from someone called "Fat Cat". I picked up my phone and scrolled down to Gustav asking him if he's sent me something. Gustav is the Swedish name for Garfield, and Garfield is the only Fat Cat that I know of. Well, Gustav is innocent so I still don't know what it is. My best guess is that it's a CD or something I've ordered. But I can't figure out what and I don't find any e-mail regarding it either. The post office closed the package desk at 7 p.m. so I couldn't claim it. I'll be home way after 7 p.m. today too so I haven't wait until Saturday morning until I get my hands on it.
On Monday I'll meet Joachim to do the final mix on his CD. It will be really fun. The [insert any expressive word here] CD is finally done. On Monday evening I'll continue to Patrik's summer house, Sommarro Rydberg. We'll be bathing, reading, chatting, composing music, through a small barbeque and just have fun. On the upcoming Saturday we've been booked for an Ypsilon 5 gig. Not sure of the location yet, but it's somewhere here in Stockholm. It will be a great gig, just hope the weather will be fine too.
Time to wrap it up now.
Song of the week: Balligomingo - "Purify" Book of the week: Neil Gaiman - "Smoke and Mirrors"
Take care now. I'm out!
